Jock

For the last couple of days Jock's taken to sitting by the front gate and peering into the distance, occasionally barking. Not sure, but I think he's waiting for Sprocket to come home. We all miss him. Been a week now.

  1. Not sure what happened but I did leave a message on the last post! Just to say my thoughts are with you, I have had to say goodbye to so many pets of different kinds over the years. It never gets easier. Give Jock my love. Diane

    1. Thanks for both your messages even though I only received one! Yes, it ain't easy when they're gone. Jock's being very spoilt at the moment.

  2. Tommo, Jock is grieving too. Take him for longer walks than usual, and talk to him and tell him Sprocket is no longer here....spend more quality time with him...he has lost his friend.
Although whenever one of my bow wows passed, it always took a little while for the others to settle back down. All he knows is that you took Sprock for a ride in the car, and he did not come back with you.
He will probably be sensing/seeing Sprock in spirit when he's barking into the distance.
Make much of him, so he does not become depressed.
Thinking of you all every day.

    1. Jock's getting walked as usual and, I think, is getting used to being on his own. Now Sprock's gone I've started taking Jock with me when I pop round the neighbours' for an evening aperitif. Seems to get on well with (er, tolerate) their impish little long-haired dachshund bitch. Took him downtown for bread and a coffee the other day. Can't really leave him at home when I go out, wouldn't be right. Am trying to keep him occupied without spoiling the little git!

  3. It makes you wonder how much dogs do remember and for how long. Jock is obviously waiting for Sprocket to come home. I wonder if he's missing him in the same way as you do, with great sadness, or if it just seems odd to him that he's not there.

    1. He's probably just a bit confused at the moment but he's slowly getting used to being on his own, not that I leave him on his own that often, only when he's left in the car for a few minutes when I pop into the supermarché. I think he's gradually getting the hang of it.
